Participated in freedom movement as student leader in 1946-47; Scholarship holder from class 4th to 10th which was forfeited by the then British Government for having led a procession of students against the famous Red Fort trials of Shahnawaz, Dhillon and Sehgal of INA; President Students Congress of Ambala district; joined Royal Indian Air Force as a pilot officer in 1949 (Flying Branch) but left the same after two years; as an officer of State Civil Service occupied many senior posts i.e. as Deputy Commissioner, Settlement Commissioner, Managing Director of various Corporations and Boards, and discharged various challenging responsibilities during 33 years of service in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana; retired in 1988 as a senior I.A.S. officer, Haryana
